The Japanese word baku has two meanings - it could be a tapir (like you find in the zoo) or it could be a mythological creature that eats nightmares.  If you have a bad dream and don’t ever want to have it again, simply say, “I give this dream to you, Baku” and the creature will gobble it up, making sure that it never troubles you again.
